Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0: A Review

The hype today is for the third-generation iPad. A lot of people still buy it because of its new features such as the Retina Display technology. If you ask a person randomly which one is the best tablet computer, he would probably say it is the iPad, and he would probably sell old iPad for the new one. However, let us check out another tablet computer from Apple’s rival, Samsung. In this article, the subject is Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0.

This tablet offers what you would expect from Android 4.0 tablet computers that cost around $250. It can also topple Amazon’s Kindle Fire because of its two cameras and expandable memory. Other than that, did you know you can use this tablet as a TV remote control? However, the screen, according to some users, is not as good as other tablets with PLS displays—not to mention that the camera is a little bit bland. Luckily, it does not affect the Galaxy Tab’s value that much. It still offers excellent performance with a great Android experience that other tablets cannot for any price.

Although the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 comes from the Tab 7.0 Plus, it still has an altered design. You might not, however, notice the differences at first look unless of course, you are familiar with the latter device.

The shape and design are still small with its size of 7 inches. The physical differences between the two tablets are that the bezel has been changed slightly and some buttons are more pronounced and more responsive.

The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is thin. It is very light when you carry it, not to mention that it is comfortable because of its smooth, rounded corners. It looks posh too with its color “titanium silver,” according to Samsung.

Unlike the iPad, this tablet has a microSD card slot. Because of this, you can add an additional 32 GB of storage to its built-in 8 GB. You can also store an amount of 50 GB in the free Dropbox storage so you do not have to worry about memory storage.

Instead of a 2 megapixel camera in front just like the one on the Plus, this tablet has a VGA version. Its back camera, however, is still 3 megapixels but it sports an LED. You would like its location too because there is no chance a finger will cover it accidentally. BUT, the rear camera takes bad pictures.

There is a light sensor that is an inch away from the front camera. This sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of your tablet. However, if it is turned on, it is too sensitive. How sensitive? It’s like this, if you accidentally cover it with your finger, the screen will darken because it surmises that you covered it with a case or put it in a bag, therefore it is no longer in use. You might find it annoying.

Another downside is that, just like most Samsung tablet computers, there is no HDMI port, so you have to buy an adapter if you want to watch videos on your TV or a projector from your tablet.

The great thing about this tablet computer is that it runson Android 4.0.3, which is what many people call Ice Cream Sandwich. It is the first Samsung to run on ICS.

Its TouchWiz UI skin comes with Samsung apps such as Music Hub, Game Hub and Media Hub. It also has a built-in screenshot app and an Apps tray on the bottom of the screen. If you tap it, the tray contains a calculator, calendar, music player, clock and notes. It also comes with a task manager where you can immediately close any app running, which is very useful if an app becomes unresponsive.
