Will the iPad Mini Bring Death to the iPad 2?

We still do not know whether or not Apple will release a smaller iPad on October 23. There was just an official announcement that there will be a media event on that day. However, that does not mean that the iPad Mini will be released. Maybe, an iPad 4 will be introduced; no one knows. If you want to sell old iPad for the smaller one, better wait.

If the smaller iPad will be released on October 23, is the life of the iPad 2 going to remain? Will the iPad Mini become its deliverer of death?

Here are some things you have to consider if the iPad Mini is ever released:

      Lightning Port

It is expected that the iPad Mini will not have the 30-pin connector, and will have the new Lightning port just like the latest iPhone. If you have accessories for your iPad, they will not work with the iPad Mini unless you buy an adapter for $29 or $39.

      Retina Display

It is also expected that the iPad Mini will not have the Retina Display technology to lower its potential price. The said technology can pack huge number of pixels in a small area, which in turn gives the display a very sharp look. It is one of the reasons why Apple has sold millions of iPhones and iPads. Their screens are simply amazing. But then again, it might not be present on the iPad Mini. If that kind of screen resolution is really important for you, then you better get the standard iPad 3.

      Size and Weight

The weight of the latest iPad is 1.46 pounds. It is pretty heavy, so holding it for a long time is very uncomfortable. It also has a 9.50 by 7.31 inches dimension. It is also about 0.37 inches thick. Although the latest iPad is one of the slimmest tablets in the market, the iPad Mini will be smaller, lighter and slimmer. If your excuse for not buying the iPad 3 is its size and weight, then that excuse is not good for the iPad Mini. Of course, the larger iPad has a larger screen on which you can work and play comfortably. Other than the physical differences, the iPad Mini will run on iOS 6.

      Price

We still do not know the price of the iPad Mini yet. However, it is obviously expected that it will cost less than the standard iPad. One of the reasons the iPad Mini is a good catch is that you will still have most of the features of the standard iPad. Usually, Apple adds $100 for an increase in storage and $130 for cellular modems. If you add them to a $299 iPad Mini, its price will jump to $529, making it more expensive than the standard iPad.

What Will Happen?

There is a huge possibility that the iPad Mini will cannibalize the sales of Apple’s larger tablet computers. However, it still depends on the consumers to boost the margins and to make up for the low starting cost. It might even be the cause of the iPad 2’s death.

Will you sell iPad 2 for the smaller iPad?
