Environmentalists are campaigning for the proper disposal
and recycling of garbage. As much as possible, they want to implement a
zero-waste program in all areas. This is
important in order for us to save our only home, which is the planet
Earth. There have been a lot of
instances where we have done harmful things, which result in irreparable
damage. We all want a safe and healthy
home for future generations of our families to live in. Thus, it would be safer for you to sell used iPad instead of
throwing it away.
The best way to educate people is to let them know the
harmful effects that can happen if wastes like old electronic items such as
iPads, mobile phones, and the like are not disposed of properly. The components of these electronic items
contain harmful chemicals that can leach out into the environment if not placed
in the proper disposal areas.
For starters, electronic wastes contain harmful metals and
chemicals that pose a threat and are a danger to humans, animals and the
environment in general. One example is the cathode ray tube found in old models
of televisions and computer monitors that have about 5 to 8 pounds of
lead. We all know that lead is one of
the most harmful chemicals that can cause poisoning of the human body. Other
harmful metals found in electronic wastes are chromium, zinc, mercury, and
nickel. When these chemicals find their
way into our bodies, it will result in irreversible damage to our brain, which
can lead to death. It might sound so
blunt, but that is the truth that everyone has the right to know.
If these electronic items are thrown into landfills, the
chemical and metal components can leach into the ground. Even if they claim that landfills are
protected by a layer of plastic which will stop these kinds of events from
happening, you really cannot tell if this is effective or not. If this protective layer is breached, then
the harmful chemicals can find their way into the ground water supply system
which will eventually find its way into our rivers, lakes, and other bodies of
fresh water. It only takes a small
amount of mercury to contaminate a 20-acre lake and affect every living thing
that can be found in it, including humans that depend on it as their source of
drinking water. So, if you have to
dispose of your old iPad, sellyour iPad instead of throwing it away.
Some of the negative health effects that these chemicals can
bring to the human body are disease and death.
Lead, when ingested, even in small quantities can lead to
poisoning. This will target your nervous
system and contribute to damage of your kidneys and your endocrine system. The same goes for cadmium, which affects the
kidneys as well. Mercury can cause damage
to the brain, which is our central organ.
When the brain is already affected, you can expect that all the other
parts of the body will be affected as well. Cancer is another negative effect
that these harmful chemicals can bring.
So if you are planning to dispose of your old electronic
items like your iPad, consider recycling it instead of just throwing it
away. Better yet, sell your iPad because
you will be able to get cash for it and in turn do a good deed for the
environment.
